Just like anything, some pieces of advice become outdated.
Now that we’re in 2019, it’s important to dust off those cobwebs of old advice when it comes to shopping for a home.
Don’t Play the Waiting Game
A common piece of advice – waiting until spring to purchase a home. While there might be higher inventory to choose from, you’re having to compete with more buyers. Although it might not be the most fun to shop for a home during the cold months, you’ll have a better shot at getting a preferred price for a home.
Look at Neighborhoods First
Daniel Martinez, a real estate agent in Houston, believes this is backwards advice in 2019. He explains, “the way cities and communities are evolving cannot be ignored, and we see this shift reflected in home buying.” Instead, it might be more beneficial for you to tour neighborhoods and areas first, and then find the home that fits within the area you’d like to see yourself live in.
Slow Down With Speedy Offers
2018 was a seller’s market – resulting in high competition and buyers sending in offers even before they’ve seen the house in person. 2019 is a different story, and is shaping up to be a buyer’s market. This means that you don’t have to feel as rushed to send in those offers. Talk with your realtor and come up with a game plan on how you’d like to tackle sending offers.
It’s always important that you discuss the various options of shopping for a home with your REALTOR®. With the real estate market constantly shifting, pieces of advice don’t always stay the same.
