Milton-Freewater is located in Eastern Oregon at the base of the beautiful Blue Mountains. Starting out as two cities, Milton and Freewater, they merged in the 1950s and became what the city is today.
The Milton-Freewater area used to be known as the “Pea Capital of the World,” but most people are more familiar with its delicious apples and cherries along with the golden fields of wheat. For the last several years, however, vineyards and wineries have put this community on the map.
As a bedroom community to Walla Walla, Washington, it has provided affordable and comfortable living by offering its residents low utility bills, a family owned and operated full service shoe shop since 1914, a drive-in theater that’s only one of three in Oregon, unique gift shops, an aquatic center, a boutique chocolatier, skatepark and a library. Milton-Freewater also has an 18-hole executive golf course that offers split level play with a wonderful view overlooking the valley. Recent additions to the neighborhood are a fine cheese shop that uses local ingredients and a custom bake shop.
If you’re a traveler and love a good roadtrip, Milton-Freewater is a great choice for a centrally located home base. The city is located about 2 ½ hours from Spokane and about 4 ½ hours from Portland, Seattle and Boise.
As the sole team member of this location, I’ve been fortunate to live in the Walla Walla Valley all my life and it’s my love of the open space, gorgeous sunsets, rolling hills and the Blue Mountain range that’s kept my roots grounded here. It’s not unusual during winter with snow on the mountains to see them turn a pinkish hue at sunset. I enjoy this spectacular view from my desk through my office window.
The advantage of working in a small town has allowed me to become acquainted with the local banking industry and community professionals. It’s nice to be recognized when you walk in their door or see them around town at the local eateries.
In my 21 years with AmeriTitle, I’ve made lasting relationships with my buyers and sellers when I’ve closed the purchase of their home, handling their first or second refinance and helping them through the sale of that same home. It’s truly enjoyable seeing the excitement on the face of a first-time homebuyer.
One thing I can definitely say — the escrow business is never boring.
