Community Spotlight – Lebanon, OR

Posted on | November 16, 2017

The moment you realize Lebanon, Oregon isn’t halfway around the world, you may wonder what this community of almost 16,000 residents located in northwest Oregon might be like.

Originally discovered and settled by pioneers in search of fertile land to turn into a permanent residence, the community tagline is “The City That Friendliness Built.” Jeremiah Ralston was the first settler to map the area and give it a name. “Lebanon” was inspired by both the Biblical reference to cedar trees, which the town has an abundance of along the Santiam River flowing through the city, as well as Ralston’s birthplace of Lebanon, Tennessee.

The people of Lebanon really do live the city slogan by being friendly, optimistic and inclusive. “What I love most about our small community is how everyone in the community supports each other’s small businesses. They have such giving hearts and love to see businesses succeed,” says Courtney Paul, Business Development Representative.

There’s also plenty to get involved with in terms of activities, events and recreation. Having 15 parks throughout the city that include sports fields and complexes gives residents several options to choose from. In addition, the Willamette National Forest and Santiam River are within close proximity providing endless opportunities for hiking, camping, fishing and overall leisure. The century-old Lebanon Strawberry Festival draws visitors in from all over and is even home to the world’s largest strawberry shortcake!
